A good citizen is key to any public service when dealing with the issues of equality and diversity because this shows a large amount of respect and acceptance for others. If a person accepts that other people may have different cultures, religious views or beliefs then this will cause less issues and would then be make that person a good citizen. It would also show that they do not think of themselves as better than others around them.It is an important quality in the services to have a good understanding of diversity because it will improve them vastly when helping the public. This could be done by having a better understanding of the cultures so they can deal with the different people in the manner suited to them to their best ability and it also will give them a better understanding of a problem, why it is happening and how to deal with it the best way possible. The effect a good citizen who respects equality and diversity has on a society/area would be that everyone that is a part of that area would feel accepted for their differences and not be stereotyped.

Linking with the public services associated with diversity would be tolerance and integration which has a positive impact on an area because people would be tolerant of others cultures, sexuality, race and disability so as an outcome of this it would reduce the crime and death rate. On the other side of this, people like the police and prison service would be out of jobs if everyone was a good, tolerant citizen.

Integration links to diversity as people with differences mix together and create a multicultural society. In relation to the public services, this can benefit them by the service cannot be mistaken for being unfair or racist for an arrest of a group of people. Another benefit would be that if the services are also mixed then they will have more of an insight into the behaviours of certain cultures if they try an arrest or to investigate a crime.
