sexism, disability, homophobia and harrassment

Sexism- this is a prejudice, stereotypical, or discrimination, usually against women but is based on the sex of the person.

This happens in tradition by the men going to work and the women having to stay at home and only do chores and look after the children. This could be because it was what they were used to or because the man didnt want to feel less dominant by not being the only income and the main family suporter. In our society this doesnt happen as much now adays. steriotypically, the women are targeted of sexism but men can also be affected by this. An example would be a women not being able to do a job because they arent as strong or able as a man. In a working environment like the army, not as many women as men are in the higher areas of charge, this can be seen as sexism.

Disability-a physical or mental condition that limits a person's senses, their movement or activity

A disability can be major or minor, physical or mental all which can prevent a person from being as able as thy would be without it.

Disability can come with ages such as mobility problems and demensia, some peple are born with a disability and will have to live with it for there whole lives but in some cases learn to live with it or even work around it. Unortuneatly it can sometimes shortern the life of a person because the disability is too much. In other cases some people develop a handicap. An example of this would be Multiple clerosis. In many case, if someone has a disability it can make them vunerable causing a person to be taken advantage of or abused. Another disadvantage would be the loss indipendance because they can no longer either want to do anything or no longer able because thee disability get in the way. A way indipendancce can b promoted would be through the use of technology such as wheelchairs or prosthetic legs and arms.

Homophobia- The dislike of or prejudice against homosexual people.

Someone who is homophobic is a person who doesnt agree with same sex relationships or likes/sexual preference. Again with tradition it can be seems as wrong and many of the older generation do not agree with it because it wasnt as excepted when they were yonger. Many people arent comfortable with it and so they try to avoid it or dont agree with it. In some religions same sex marrages arent allowed to be held in churches because the churches do not recognise same sex marrages. Because of the waysome people feel towards homosexuality, homosexuals are vunerable to abuse in verbally and physically.

Harrassment- aggression pressure or intimidation towards a person from another individual or group.

This can be displayed through unwanted attention, it could be in a over affectionate way or in a spiteful way. Many people who are harrassed are then too scared to report it because threats are often made to make the victim. Protection from Harassment Act 1997
